Academic Support

READING PROGRAM: At Gables, all students will receive reading instruction through the Storytown, ReadyGen, and Reading A-Z reading programs adopted by the Columbus Public Schools. The reading program uses research-based instructional strategies which focus on the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Every lesson contains opportunities for students to practice these skills through: a Literacy Board which provides students instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics, a Read Aloud session in which teachers read a story aloud to students as a whole group and follow up with comprehension questions, a Reading session in which students will have an opportunity to read a variety of texts including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and an Enrichment and Re-teaching session which will allow teachers to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
